Description
The Colloquium and ensuing Reception celebrate the publication of
Probability and Mathematical Genetics: Papers in Honour of Sir
John Kingman. This Festschrift, published by Cambridge
University Press (see http://www.prob.org.uk), marks Sir John's
70th birthday, in 2009.

The meeting will be at 1600 in Room SM1 in the School of Mathematics, University Walk, BRISTOL, BS8 1TW and will be followed at 1700 by a Reception, at the same location. All are welcome.

Sir John Kingman has continued scientifically active through his
many public appointments, not least his long and distinguished
tenure of the Vice-Chancellorship at Bristol. A major theme of
his work and of the Festschrift is the modelling of, and
inference for, the genome, where the 'Kingman coalescent' has
been a seminal idea since 1982. The colloquium lecture will be
given by Peter Donnelly FRS FMedSci, who is Professor of
Statistical Science at Oxford and Director of the Wellcome Trust
Centre for Human Genetics there.
