Research Interests
Dynamical systems
Particular interests include dynamical billiards, where a particle moves freely except for collisions with the boundary. These are of theoretical interest, providing visual examples of many kinds of dynamics from regular to chaotic depending on the shape of the container, and model experiments and applications in which light, atoms, electrons or sound move in a confined region. Open systems, where particles or trajectories enter and/or exit the system, or move between two or many sub-systems. Time-dependent systems, such as billiards with vibrating boundaries, in which the energy can grow in an unbounded manner.
Wireless networks
Characterising connectivity and reliability of mesh networks, in which signals are relayed by individual devices ("nodes") rather than through a central router, in terms of the shape of the region, pairwise connectivity properties and the node density.
