Undergraduate admissions
A day ahead of you when you will be proud, and doors will open for you: Graduation.
The important choice for you
The choice of course and university is one of the most important decisions a young person will make in their life. At Bristol we view undergraduate teaching and the educational experience of our students as being of primary importance. Our aim is that our graduates will go out into the world equipped and ready to enjoy the most successful careers.
Ground-breaking research leads to great teaching
At the School of Mathematics we care passionately about research. All academic staff within the School are actively involved in research and the desire of our teaching staff to break new ground is what makes the School such a tremendous learning experience.
We are passionate about teaching too. Our students receive the highest quality of mathematical education and training for jobs in research, industry, commerce and education.
We take in capable students and believe that we turn out first-rate graduates whose degrees provide them with the best possible springboard to their subsequent careers. Members of our teaching staff have written some of the best-known undergraduate mathematics textbooks.
We offer small-group teaching in the first year, as well as close personal tutoring to ensure a smooth transition from school to university.
Our courses are designed to provide a solid foundation in the basics of mathematics. They progress to include advanced study of specialist subjects at the cutting edge of research, as well as options that are more vocationally focused.
The Mathematics programme at Bristol was rated "excellent" with one of the highest marks in the last National Assessment of Undergraduate Teaching programmes. We also featured very strongly in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, with the Applied group being rated 3rd in the UK, the Pure group 4th and the Statistics group 5th. This strong research base is reflected in an ambitious and exciting menu of units in years 3 and 4 of our programmes.
