Undergraduate study

These pages are intended for undergraduate students in single- and joint-honours BSc and MSci three- and four-year programmes in mathematics, and students from other schools and departments taking mathematics units.

Undergraduate mathematics units

The university uses level descriptors C/4 for units normally taken in year one, I/5 for second-year units, H/6 for third-year units and M/7 for fourth-year units. The initials C, I, H, M stand for Certificate, Intermediate, Honours and Masters; the numbers 4, 5, 6 denote the corresponding QAA framework level.

Our undergraduate courses are organised as "units", each assigned 10, 20, 30 or 40 "credit points" according to how much work they entail. A full year's work is 120 credit points.

Dates

Study is organised around terms whose dates are set by the University. Note that there are some school activities outside the teaching weeks, such as exams in April and exam re-takes (in some cases of failure or illness) in September, and the main graduation ceremony in July.

Blackboard

Handbooks, forms and information about examinations can be found in the Blackboard online learning environment.

Bb

All students are automatically entered on the Blackboard system. There is a "course" there called Math_Teaching which is a repository of documents of use to all undergraduate students. Please, ask the Undergraduate Student Administrators (see side bar) for the required access code and then self-enroll to this course.

Math info email address

If you have a question about the school of mathematics then you can email math info and your query will be forwarded to the correct person to deal with.
